Don't be too helpful

We once helped a company manage what could have been a national crisis. You see, the company in question had a good process in place to manage and collect data – if only they had followed it.

Instead, when the data was collected, the collecting agent didn’t have the right collection bag, but they wanted to ‘help’ so they used another bag.

You can guess what happened.

The new and different bag was lost along with some very valuable information.

The moral of the story: Follow the process, don’t accept a ‘helpful’ alternative. It’s rarely as helpful as you might think.
